INTRODUCTION

there was a new neon text effect released with the last upgrade of final cut pro that's the version 10.6 while it seems obvious what this does to tex there are some tricks that will let you expand the effect and also as you'll see later in the video the effect can also be added to objects

OUTER GLOW EFFECT

so let's look at the obvious effect when added to a title the effect is found in the text category in the effects browser and the quickest result will be to add it to an outline font i've used florence sans outlines to show you and if you want to see how other fonts react just hover over them in the font selections the effect can be adjusted without a brightness outer glow inner brightness and thin thoughts also suit the effect i've used got a light here and a standard font can also benefit from the effect and nothing's more standard than gill sands and here it is with the effect off and here it is turned on

GENERATORS

now with the outer glow increased and with an outline added and finally for the text effects let's look at a novelty font i've used hvd piece and it's turned off now enable it and let's show it with a black background as i said in the beginning you can also add the effect to objects let's look at the shape from the effects category in your generators this is a standard generator that comes with final cut pro so you'll be able to try it out too so drag it from the generators and here it is without the effect and here it is with the effect turned on i've also added the effect to my red arrows that i use in all my tutorials without the effect and with it turned on and you can see

NEON EFFECT

how it can be changed with the inner brightness slider and finally i've added the effect to one of the standard backgrounds and that's rays this also comes with final cut pro as a standard background here it is without the effect and now with it turned on and if you're wondering how the flashing neon effect was done at the beginning of this video well i'll show you how it's done as you'll no doubt have worked out in the past i record my face to camera sections with a green screen and in this case in the edit i added the neon effect behind me and in front of the background

VIDEO ANIMATION

then i cut the title into even pieces by holding the b key and clicking in the title then i selected all the pieces except for the first and dragged to the right and then with the command key down i deselected the second section and dragged then deselected the third section and so on finally to fade out the effect i right clicked on the last section and then selected show video animation

DRAG AND DROP

click the little chevron and drag the fader slider to the left and now you can see what seemed like such a simple effect can do so many things i hope you've learned something useful and if you have please like subscribe and press the bell to be notified of new tutorials every sunday

HOW TO INSTALL FINAL CUT PRO

how to install final cut pro plugins this quick tutorial will show you how to manually install plugins that you've downloaded to use in final cut pro and i'll also show you at the end of the tutorial how to create a favorites folder so that you can store your frequently used plugins and have them at hand you'll usually find that plugins are downloaded to your downloads folder as a zip file as they are here if they're not in your downloads folder

TRANSITION AND EFFECT

you're best to go to spotlight and look for them there sometimes a zip file will automatically expand so you'll see the folder in your downloads folder but in this case it has it so we'll double click the zip file so once the folder is expanded for final cut to recognize the plugin it needs to be stored in the motion templates folder so in the finder go to the go menu and select the home folder and inside the home folder you'll see a movies folder and inside the movies folder you'll see your motion templates folder and there you have generators titles transitions and effects and all of those plugins are in those folders

PLUGINS

so if you don't know what type of plugin you have then you do need to open up the folder now this needs to be done carefully and what i'm going to do here is to open a new finder window and we'll go back to the downloads folder and we'll look inside the social media plugin folder and inside there's a black image file if you select the file and press the spacebar you can see this is called a project that projects always go in the generators folders it's much easier for titles transitions and effects because that little black file is labeled by the name so if we look inside the titles and we go to the favorites and titles then you look in there and you can see the black image file press the space bar

MOTION TEMPLATES

you can see it's a title and the same would apply for effects and for transitions they would both be called either transitions or effects we know that the social media plugin is a generator so we need to drag that into the generators folder inside the motion templates folder we can see the social media folder there and as i promised i'll show you how to create a favorites folder within generators so you can put your most frequently used files inside so what you need to do is you need to go to your motion templates folder and we'll double click the generators folder to open it and then go to the file menu and select new folder we'll call that favorites and since i've already got a favorites folder just for the exercise i'll call this fav2 and we'll drag the social media plugin into fav2

CONCLUSION

now when we go to final cut and i look at the generators and find the fave too you can see there's the switch social and there's the generator tab and if i put the playhead over it there you can see that generator and i hope you found this quick tutorial useful please like and subscribe and press the bell so i can make more of these tutorials for you thanks for watching
